White River 50 Miles ~ 8700+ Ft. Asc/ 8700+ Ft. Decent ~ 11:13
The week prior to WR50, I had a short & sweet run on a very familar trail (Wildwood). After about 2 miles I felt tightness in my calf & then a sudden zinger. Needless to say I walked back to my car not wanting to make things worse.
I was hoping to run WR50 strong....If I would have know how hard the course was I probably would have stayed home. All I can say is that WR50 is an amazing 50 mile run!!! It is only 2 climbs, but they are major climbing.
The night before the race we had a thunder and lightning storm and heavy rain to top it off.
I couldn't sleep very well thinking...all I brought was shorts & a tank! Waking in the morning....all rain was gone & the day was looking to be good.
Micheal & Ronda were sure to run a smok'in fast day and they did! Gary just ran Tahoe Rim Trail 100 2 weeks ago ~ and he rocked the course w/ 100 mile legs & very little training.
I put on my ace bandage & compression sleeves and ran a good race. I warmed my leg up for the first climb. I was apprehensive about "really" tearing a muscle but the compression really helped. Although, I know the prayers helped too! I was in dead last place for the first 42 min. of the race. I kept telling myself, it's okay....you'll catch'em later. Finally catching up with people it was nice to visit along such a beautiful trail. It was fun to cheer the front runners on and to see Micheal & Ronda & Gary on the out & back section too.
As I ran WR50 ~ I started thinking about "adaptation". My injury was adapting and it was freakishly weird.

I'd love to see just what Ronda could do out on that course "if she was racing" She said, "she wasn't even pushing it" ~ Meanwhile I was dying on the last 13 miles! Ronda ~ sub 10 hours!Micheal ~ sub 9 hours!!
My leg held out & Gary and I finished close together. Although, I finished before Gary by only 11 min. ~ He is definately back!! My days are over beating him. He's built up his strength & is running strong once again.

nice job Cheri! Going into a race like WR with any injury mild or otherwise can way heavily. Glad you had a great day and adapted while you got to view one of the best races the PNW has to offer.
Nice job. I love this course. People usually don't understand the significance of the climbing when I say there are only two "hills." :)
